Vaca approved! Ian & I will be road trippin down to CA this October. San Fran honeymoon and then again on our anniversary- can't get enough right?

We are most excited as this should be a sweet trip & serve as a say hello, say goodbye before heading overseas.

Our schedule is flexible, but basically:
Friday the 15th- staying with friends in Vancouver, WA or Portland, OR.
Weekend - Aunt & Uncle in Northern Californiafor some instructional pizza throwing
18-20ish- LA for some filming. We are trying to get in on some shows like Leno, Chelsea Handler, or the like.
Disneyland!
21-22ish- San Diego / Carlsbad / La Jolla for fun with fam  and Seals!
23-24th- truck it back!

Most def will need to finesse this schedule, but looking forward to making it happen!

Social Networking Faux Pas

Mum brought this article to our attention in which it explains:

"Ausgezeichnet: A new law in Germany will make it illegal for prospective employers to use personal and perhaps embarrassing photos on social networking sites, such as Facebook, in their hiring decisions. In drafting the legislation, lawmakers called it a German version of the Vegas Law of Convenient ...Amnesia.

Vat happens in der biergarten, staysen zie in der biergarten."

She was right to worry. But there are people with more problems than us.

Check out Slavic style!
(For the record: this is, as the website denotes, "a harshly filtered selection of photos from the totally NSFW and tasteless LiveJournal ru-community shkola_urodov, dedicated to inappropriately toned discussions of various unfortunate persons' social networking profile pictures, Slavic style.")

To be a kid again....

This guy makes the magic happen with his camera & some ladders.

"By photographing from above and using the ground as a two-dimensional backdrop, Von Holleben creates a whimsical world where children fly through the air and perform unearthly feats. "Ladders are my second home!" he writes in an email, "Things just look so different from up there!"

A City in Decline

We keep hearing about Detroit.
That it has a wildlife tour because it is being reclaimed by nature
The nickname "the Rust Belt"
An article in the Stranger about an art school student who couldn't leave the campus because of city crime.
I'm fascinated.

And now Ian found a link to a new photo book illustrating the Ruins of Detroit.

To our Health!

Ian & I trying to eat better, exercise, and just generally be better people. It isn't going well...

Little Spaces

I love the efficiency and modern design of European spaces. The sleek cabintry, clearly defined spaces, and bright colors! Swoon.
Here is someone in Seattle truly making a tiny space work:

Döner macht schöner!

I think Ian still has dreams about the sweet döner we left behind. For those of you unfamiliar with the tastiness of tasty, here is the expert on all things, Wikipedia:

"Doner kebab (Turkish: döner kebap or döner kebabı, literally "rotating roast", often abbreviated as döner), is a Middle Eastern dish made of lamb meat (mainly) cooked on a vertical spit and sliced off to order. Two similar dishes are called shawarma in Arabic and gyros in Greek, although ingredients and sauces differ.

A version developed to suit German tastes by Turkish immigrants in Berlin has become one of Germany's most popular fast food dishes; in fact, Annual sales in Germany amount to 2.5 billion euros ($4.61 billion)"

Berlin Döner Kebab

Ian practically teared up when we ate our last ones before returning to Seattle in the shop below our apartment in Friedrichshain.

We are almost back to our beloved döner and every once in a while, when the craving is especially bad, I remember the döner song about the ...

Oh Seattle, the Beautiful

You are so beautiful. Really. Gorgeous.

Spent the day at the arboretum. So freakin beautiful. We swam out from the beach and watched in awe as yachts, kayaks, canoes, sailboats, and rust buckets, sailed by. Seattle folk love the good weather and I feel the common guilt if you spend the day indoors.

Tomorrow we are heading to Colman Pool- another jewel of Seattle summer. Salt water, sunshine, and sound breezes.

Also- guide for Oslo is in. Life is good.

I Quit

95 days till we take off and not one second I don't dream of quitting my receptionist gig. It hasn't been all that bad, but I am actually going to be writing full time- sweet! Hopefully we will make ends meet and  all will be good with the heavy costs of health insurance & loans weighing us down. But those are worries for the future. Now is the time of imagining glorious "I Quit!"scenarios.

Like this girl:

Def one of the most inspirational stories of someone quitting ever. Please let it be true.
