We arrived in the sleepy NW corner of Berlin to things looking just a bit different. Some people were dressed in viking-esque garb. Multiple stages with cover bands and other miscellaneous acts had been set-up. There was much German singing.
Our friends live right around here so we had already been exposed to the wonders of Tegel - outside of the lake and the airport. When they told us about this traditional harbor festival which included a viking village and performances we were open to it. When they told us there were fireworks we were in. We're obviously a sucker for fireworks, but we should never handle them so this sounded perfect.
...but the whole thing maintained an air of being a little strange. This was a festival for Germans, not the growing international scene of hipper neighborhoods like Kreuzberg and Neukölln.
We chatted and wandered, and spent an inordinate amount of time watching this lonely kid try to stand in this spinning bubble.
Finally, the sun began to set on the lake.

Hafenfest, had Arrived.
People gathered around little tables as the music varied from oldies, to German polka to death metal. |

The lanterns and trees created a lovely ambiance...

FIREWORKS!
It was perfect.
So when the festivities begin again this weekend, we'll be there. Try to spot us in the very German madness.
